Who is eligible for this program?
You may qualify if anyone in your household receives SNAP or EBT, Medicaid, Social Security Disability, Federal Housing Assistance (Section 8), or Veterans Pension or Survivors Benefits. You may also qualify when household income is below 135% of the federal poverty level.
What does the Affordable Wireless Program include?
Qualified households can receive a free phone and the first two months free on the $40 monthly service plan. After the introductory period, a recurring $10 monthly discount applies to eligible plans. An activation fee and offer terms apply.
What should I bring when I apply?
Bring current proof of qualifying benefits and a valid government photo ID. You will also need the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you are unsure what to bring, call our Chapel Hill team before your visit.

How long does it take?

Is there an activation fee?
The activation fee is $19.99 when you bring your existing phone number and enroll in AutoPay, $39.99 when you get a new number and enroll in AutoPay, or $49.99 without a number transfer or AutoPay.
Can I keep my current phone number?
Yes. You can bring your existing phone number to Selectel Wireless, and our Chapel Hill team can help with the transfer. Bringing your number and enrolling in AutoPay qualifies you for the $19.99 activation fee.
How many phones can I get?
There is a limit of four AWP discounts per household.
What happens after the first two free months?
The $40 monthly plan becomes $30 per month with your recurring $10 AWP discount after the first two free months. You can also choose another eligible monthly plan priced $25 or higher and receive the $10 discount.
Which plans qualify for the $10 monthly discount?
The recurring AWP discount applies to Selectel Wireless monthly service plans priced $25 or higher. For example, the $30 plan becomes $20 per month, the $40 plan becomes $30, and the $50 plan becomes $40. The first two months free offer applies only to the $40 plan.
Are there any contracts?
No. Selectel Wireless monthly service plans are flexible and month to month.
